Future of landmark N. Versailles restaurant uncertain after blaze destroys building

None — NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. -- Firefighters were called to battle a blaze at a North Versailles restaurant on Monday.

Emergency responders said the Winchester Room on Lincoln Highway caught fire around 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters had to block Route 30 as they worked to extinguish the flames.

The Winchester Room has been in North Versailles for 31 years.

Fire investigators said the blaze began in the basement. Channel 11 News was there as workers used construction equipment to knock down walls and pull debris away from the building.

"We're all like family. Everybody's here, even people that don't work here anymore. It's unbelievable. It's a nightmare," said employee Anna Safos.

The owner of the restaurant said he's not sure if he'll be able to rebuild.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
