ONLY ON 11: Mother of woman poisoned with cyanide by husband speaks

PITTSBURGH — Lois Klein, the mother of Dr. Autumn Klein, whose husband was convicted of fatally poising her with cyanide, spoke exclusively with Channel 11 Thursday about her last moments with her daughter in the hospital.

Autumn was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in April 2013 after collapsing at her home. Hours beforehand, Lois said her daughter was perfectly healthy and that she prayed that Autumn would wake up.

“They had a lot of tubes and things hooked up to her, and I held her hand. And I talked to her, and I told her, ‘You heal everybody else's brain. Why can't you heal your own?’” said Lois. “But there was no response, no movement, no nothing.”

Autumn never recovered and died April 20, 2013.

Her husband, former University of Pittsburgh researcher Dr. Robert Ferrante, was convicted of first-degree murder last November in her death.
