PA Turnpike hosts national Move Over Day at service plazas

NEW STANTON, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is hosting National Move Over Day events today, Oct. 17, at five service plazas across the state.

The initiative aims to educate drivers about Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law.

Running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the events highlight the importance of slowing down and moving over for emergency responders, roadside workers and disabled motorists.

Police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services crews, tow operators and maintenance staff face daily safety risks while working along active travel lanes.

The safety events are taking place at five turnpike locations:

  • New Stanton plaza at milepost 77.6 westbound
  • Sideling Hill plaza at milepost 172.3 eastbound and westbound
  • Highspire plaza at milepost 249.7 eastbound
  • King of Prussia plaza at milepost 328.4 westbound
  • Hickory Run plaza at milepost 86.1 northbound and southbound on the Northeast Extension

Visitors can meet personnel who maintain roadway safety, inspect emergency response vehicles and turnpike equipment up close and take a Safe Driving Pledge.

Attendees can also participate in safety activities and receive educational materials and family-friendly giveaways while supplies last.
