Pittsburgh celebrates first-ever Citizens Fire Academy graduation

Pittsburgh celebrates first-ever Citizens Fire Academy graduation (Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire/Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire)

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire is celebrating the graduation of its first-ever class in the Citizens Fire Academy.

Over the past seven weeks, firefighters have welcomed members of the community for training on how to keep the community safe.

Participants learned how to administer CPR, participated in live-fire training, learned about Fireboat operations and collaborated to learn how essential teamwork is to protecting others.

Those lessons all led up to a graduation ceremony held this week.

Fire Chief Mat Davis and Public Safety Director Sheldon Williams spoke at that ceremony.

“Today you all are the first Citizens Fire Academy graduates. Tomorrow you are ambassadors of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the City of Pittsburgh. Under my leadership, we will continue to build relationships, increase awareness, and share the importance of fire safety,” Davis said.

“Through this inaugural academy, you’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the work our public safety professionals do every day to serve our community. Importantly, I hope you’ll carry the impact of this experience forward and help us continue building a safer, stronger Pittsburgh for all,” Williams said.
