Pittsburgh City Councilman denies allegations made against him in DA’s search warrant

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh City Councilman Khari Mosley told Channel 11 he didn’t have any involvement in the no-bid contract allegations against former Mayor Ed Gainey’s administration.

“There’s no connection between me and the insinuations and inaccuracies that are in the document,” Councilman Khari Mosley told Channel 11.

Mosley’s name was mentioned in the search warrant the DA filed, saying he also benefited from the contracts. Most of the information came from the attorney for the city council, Dan Friedson.

“Mr. Friedson is going to have to explain that for himself. I did not benefit from anything,” Mosley said.

Mosley is one of the co-founders of 1Hood Media, which was also named in the warrant as receiving funds from the city’s Stop the Violence program.

“When it came to Stop the Violence fund, we followed the process that every organization followed. We submitted a grant; we were approved,” another founder of 1Hood Media, Jasiri X, said.

“It seems like this is politically motivated. A witch hunt, that’s what it seems like, and it seems like it’s directed at Khari Mosley,” he added.

While Mosley denies having any involvement in misspending or the no-bid contracts, the one person we haven’t heard back from is former mayor Ed Gainey — who hasn’t returned our calls after the warrant was unsealed.

Gainey is now a commissioner for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The agency told us today his job status there has not changed.

Current Pittsburgh mayor Corey O’Connor is promising transparency.

“We want to be transparent; we want to put projects out there so everyone has the right to bid on them. And that we are transparent with the public to see where their dollars are going,” Mayor O’Connor said.

As of now, no one has been criminally charged.
