Pittsburgh Regional Transit to buy 102 new buses, if board approves

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Regional Transit may be making a big purchase soon.

A PRT spokesperson confirmed to Channel 11 Thursday that the authority plans to buy 102 new buses.

That includes six 60-foot electric buses, 40 35-foot diesel buses and 56 60-foot diesel buses manufactured by New Flyer.

The purchase would reportedly cost $94.1 million.

It’s pending full approval from the board, which is set to meet Sept. 25, the spokesperson says.

If approved, the new buses should start servicing riders next summer.
