Pittsburgh Regional Transit plans temporary technology systems outage

Pittsburgh Regional Transit plans temporary technology systems outage (WPXI/WPXI)

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Regional Transit will temporarily take most of its technology systems offline starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, to relocate its primary data center.

The planned maintenance is intended to maintain and improve the agency’s transit technology infrastructure. During the work, several digital passenger services will experience temporary outages.

The agency’s main website, RidePRT.org, is expected to remain accessible, but TrueTime real-time bus and rail arrival information will face potential interruptions alongside third-party applications that rely on agency data.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit customer service phone lines will remain open during the maintenance window. However, representatives may have limited capabilities to assist callers because internal tools will be temporarily unavailable.

Riders may continue to encounter intermittent service or technology disruptions while the maintenance remains underway.

The primary stage of the data center migration is expected to last between seven and 10 hours following the 8 p.m. start time. Technicians will restore individual systems in phases and verify full operational connectivity as the work finishes.
