Woman injured in Penn Hills shooting

PENN HILLS — Penn Hills Police Chief Ronald Como told Channel 11 a woman was shot in the leg when at least 50 rounds were fired from a high-caliber rifle.

The shooting took place around 11 p.m. Thursday. First responders were called to the area of Tulip Road in Penn Hills. We saw police placing evidence markers on the ground and bullet holes in a vehicle at Rodi and Hoover roads.

Como said the SUV was hit nearly a dozen times while driving by. The driver was not hit, but a woman who was a passenger had to be rushed to the hospital.

“It doesn’t seem serious, but I don’t have any idea of her condition right now,” Como said.

Police said there could have been multiple shooters. So far, no suspects are in custody.

A stray bullet shattered the window of a nearby convenience store, causing it to remain closed through the morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Penn Hills police.
