Police said the two victims were in their car, driving west on James Street when a man began walking toward them, pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Two bullets hit the car’s windshield before the driver was able to get away. Authorities said the gunman, who had a hood on and black jacket, fled the scene on foot.

Ten bullet casings were recovered at the scene, police said.

“Just a succession: ‘Pop, pop.’ It happened real, real fast,” said Don Watts, who owns an auto service shop directly across from the scene of the shooting.

Watts said he was the first to call 911.

“I just heard some gunshots. I was looking across the street, didn't see anything and then caught the last one,” said Watts.

Police said they do not know at this point whether the shooting was random or targeted or who the suspect might be.

The investigation is ongoing.
