PITTSBURGH — Residents of Pittsburgh’s Polish Hill neighborhood are frustrated with drivers speeding while taking a detour through the area to avoid construction on Baum and Bigelow boulevards.
Some signs made by residents are posted on Melwood Street. The signs read “Families live here, please slow down” and “Which one of you hit our car?”

James Browder, a resident, told Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan that the streets are filled with traffic twice a day, and drivers sometimes go twice the speed limit.
As a result, many residents who park on the street have cars that have been damaged.

“Multiple cars have been hit; multiple neighbors of mine have had to do repairs to their cars. People just sideswipe the car, and continue going on, don’t even stop,” Browder said.
Browder also said his wife was almost hit by a car since the detour has been posted.
“She was getting out of the car with groceries and a car came through very fast, it almost hit her,” he said.
Construction on Baum and Bigelow boulevards began in September.
Mayor Bill Peduto requested additional police officers to monitor traffic during rush hour, but Browder said he has not noticed a change.
