SHIPPINGPORT, Pa. — Neighbors in a Beaver County community asked questions about a new data center project Wednesday night.
Aligned Data Centers bought the old Bruce Mansfield Power Plant site in Shippingport. The company plans to build a nearly 2 million-square-foot data center campus.
Residents could learn about Aligned and the project during a community event at the Shippingport municipal building. Officials say the investment could impact the whole region.
“The benefits to this community, taking in an industrial site and bringing the digital age to it, it’s just tremendous,” David Robinson, executive vice president of Aligned, said. “It’s going to be billions of dollars in investment, and we are really excited to be a part of this community.”
Shippingport Borough leaders are still considering whether to approve Aligned’s plan.
Shippingport resident Patricia Lamb shared her thoughts on the project with Channel 11.
“I hope that they are truly going to follow through with all that they have told us and explain to us how the electricity is going to work and how the water is going to be involved,” she said.
Shippingport Mayor John Erickson said he’s “all for” the project and the jobs it promises bring during construction and after completion. He added that he “doesn’t believe” most of the “misinformation” shared about data centers.
