PITTSBURGH — Parents and children from six Pittsburgh Public Schools joined the City’s biannual Mobility and Infrastructure Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday.
Families on the North Side gathered to walk, bike or scooter to Allegheny Traditional Academy.
Pittsburgh Faison, Pittsburgh Arlington, Pittsburgh Montessori, Pittsburgh Langley and Pittsburgh Phillips families also participated in the event.
“This is a good way to get it out before the teachers have to deal with it, you know?” Marissa Whitlock said.
“I’ve got a trumpet in this side, two backpacks over here, and a cat in the front,” Seth Patton said. “The kids and I always wanted to put the cat on the bicycle and take a cat for a ride, and she’s a real good buddy to take with us.”
It made for a fun morning for the kids and their parents.
“I feel like I’m seeing folks that I don’t typically see. We kind of just get in line and go into the school. So, it’s nice to just have some time to mingle,” Allyce Pinchback said.
Out of all of the schools participating, the school with the most families will win an award at the end of the year.
“I think especially the sense of community here at Allegheny is awesome. So kids see each other in the morning and then going into school together for their day is pretty special,” Haillie Thyben said.
This year marks the 6th year the city has hosted this event.
