PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Regional Transit said an Uptown street will be closed for multiple weeks as work on the University Line project continues.

Kirkpatrick Street will close between Fifth Avenue and Beelen Street on Monday.

PRT expects the road to be closed for about two weeks.

Crews will work to realign Kirkpatrick Street with the entrance of the Birmingham Bridge, officials say. Workers will also add new sidewalks, pedestrian safety signs and traffic signals.

The work in Uptown Pittsburgh is part of Phase Two of the University Line Project.

The goal of the project is to better connect Downtown, Uptown and Oakland, in part by adding a dedicated bus lane on Fifth and Forbes avenues and a new bike lane on Fifth Avenue.

Bus service will not be impacted during the upcoming closure.
