INDIANA, Pa. — An incident in Indiana County early Sunday morning has prompted police to issue a safety reminder to college-aged persons.

In a press release, the Indiana Borough Police Department says around 12:45 a.m., a college-aged woman ran into a college-aged man on Rice Avenue who appeared to have a handgun.

The two spoke briefly before the man was called away by apparent friends, police say.

Police specify the woman was not threatened with the gun, nor was it ever pointed at her. Investigators are now seeking videos from the area, which is by Indiana University of Pennsylvania and reportedly had a steady pedestrian presence all night, to understand what occurred.

No other similar incidents were reported throughout the night. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators by calling 724-349-2121.

Police are urging college-aged residents and visitors to stay vigilant in and around large gatherings late at night. If you see dangerous and suspicious activity, call 911.
