Sarris Candies brings new Scoop Shop to Pittsburgh grocery store

PITTSBURGHt — Sarris Candies will open a new Sarris Scoop Shop inside the Penn Avenue Market District in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

The shop is located at 6310 Penn Ave. inside the grocery store, offering quick-service treats that customers can eat while shopping or in a nearby seating area. The location expands the company’s ice cream presence beyond its original ice cream parlor in Canonsburg.

The Scoop Shop will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Menu items include ice cream cones, sundaes, milkshakes and other prepackaged treats.

Bill Sarris, president and chief executive officer of Sarris Candies, noted that the business has operated in the region for more than six decades.

“We’ve been serving generations of families in Western Pennsylvania and beyond for more than 65 years and we’re always looking for new ways to meet our customers where they are,” Sarris said. “Opening inside Market District gives us a great opportunity to do exactly that while introducing even more people to our ice cream.”

Dan Donovan, spokesperson for Market District, said the addition builds on an existing relationship between the retailer and the candy maker.

“At Market District, we are passionate about showcasing outstanding products, local partners and food experiences to help our customers discover great taste,” Donovan said. “We’re thrilled to expand our longtime partnership with Sarris Candies to now feature a Sarris Scoop Shop inside of our Penn Avenue Market District location.”

Sarris Candies was founded as a small candy business in Canonsburg in 1960. The family-owned company has since expanded into a regional brand producing handcrafted chocolates, seasonal items and ice cream.
