Sidney Crosby named MVP of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 10th time

PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby will be the recipient of two awards for the 2021-22 season, including the MVP award.

Crosby has received PPG’s Most Valuable Player Award and UPMC’s Players’ Player Award. This is the second consecutive season that the captain has received both awards. He has been recognized as the team’s MVP a total of 10 times.

The Players’ Player Award winner is voted on by the players. This marks Crosby’s fourth time winning the award.

Crosby is closely trailing Mario Lemieux for the most MVP recognitions in team history. Lemieux received the award 12 times during his Penguins career. He could soon pass Lemieux as the player to lead the team in scoring for the most seasons in Penguins history. Lemieux led the team in scoring for a total of 11 seasons and Crosby is currently leading for his 12th season.

Crosby scored his 500th career goal during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 15.
