PITTSBURGH — Anticipated severe weather has led organizers to cancel a popular Pittsburgh market.
The Squirrel Hill Night Market scheduled for Saturday has been canceled, as showers and thunderstorms are forecast to overlap with the event, officials say. Those storms could bring damaging winds, hail and lightning.
“While it is never easy to cancel an event that so many artists, vendors, performers, merchants and community partners have worked hard to prepare for, the safety of everyone involved must always come first,” Uncover Squirrel Hill and I Made It! Market said in a joint statement. “Based on the current forecast and guidance from our weather partners, we believe canceling today’s event is the safest and most responsible decision.”
Officials are now working to reschedule Saturday’s market to Aug. 29, from 6-10 p.m. Final details should be announced early next week.
You can check Uncover Squirrel Hill and I Made It! Market’s websites and social media pages for updates.
The open-air market takes place annually on Murray Avenue, in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill Business District. This year’s final market is scheduled for Sept. 26.
