Target 11: 4 teens under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting special needs student

PITTSBURGH — Shocking and disturbing allegations involve as many as four students from an area high school.

A 15-year-old student from that same school claims she was sexually assaulted by the students after school and off of school property.

Law enforcement sources tell Target 11 investigator Rick Earle that as many as four students between the ages of 15 and 17 from Pittsburgh’s Taylor Allderdice High School are under investigation for allegedly raping a 15-year-old special needs student who attends the same school.

Sources tell Earle that the alleged assault occurred earlier this month near the intersection of Forward and Murray avenues just below the high school.

That intersection, where students wait for buses, has been a trouble spot for weeks. Students have gotten into several large fights. Earlier this month, a Pittsburgh police officer suffered injuries while using a Taser to break up an altercation involving multiple students.

Ebony Pugh, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Schools, sent a statement to Target 11.

“The District is aware of an alleged incident currently under investigation by City Police involving students. As this is an active police investigation involving minors, no further comment is available,” said Pugh.

Sources also tell Target 11 that detectives with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police’s special victims unit have visited the school and have been going to businesses and homes near the high school and in the business district on Murray, searching for witnesses and surveillance video.

Pittsburgh police released a statement to Target 11 as well.

“A report of an assault was taken by officers in Zone 4 … due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and the potential involvement of juveniles, we can’t provide any more details at this point,” said police public information officer Amanda Mueller.

According to law enforcement sources, police have identified the teens allegedly involved in the assault. So far no charges have been filed against them.
