BRENTWOOD, Pa. — The Brentwood police chief was suspended two months ago, and now Target 11 Investigator Rick Earle knows why he was taken off the job.
Earle reported Tuesday Robert Butelli retired after a scathing review of his department and accusations of misconduct.
A copy of a report done by an outside investigator contends Butelli used his borough car for personal use, failed to report a car accident and used his authority to target a political adversary.
"I think when you are in position such as a police chief, honesty and integrity are the two most important factors, and I didn't find consistency with either of those in the report," said Brentwood councilmember Stephanie Fox.
The report also said the chief failed to perform basic supervisory duties and that led to low morale in the department.
Butelli has denied the allegations. In an email to Channel 11, he claimed he was the victim of personal and political vendettas.
Butelli has said he was allowed personal use of his vehicle under previous administrations and the accident was a minor fender-bender over a weekend. He said he reported the accident when he returned to work Monday morning.
