PITTSBURGH — Break out the shorts for the next couple of days as high temperatures will average 15-20 degrees above normal.

More sunshine returns Tuesday as temperatures surge into the 70s. The warming trend continues Wednesday, which is shaping up to be the warmest day of the week. High temperatures are expected to reach the middle 70s with a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Rain showers finally return to the area Wednesday night. Rain showers are expected to become more widespread overnight and continue into Thursday morning. Wet leaves could make roads slippery during the morning commute. Motorists should allow extra travel time and use caution on area roadways.

As the rain exits, cooler air will begin filtering into the region. A few lingering showers remain possible Friday before drier weather takes over. Afternoon highs will fall back into the upper 50s and lower 60s by the end of the week.

The upcoming weekend looks much cooler but generally dry. Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine Saturday and Sunday with afternoon temperatures settling back into the middle 50s, much closer to where they should be for early November.
