PITTSBURGH — An event Saturday in Pittsburgh encouraged men to take better care of themselves.
Black Men’s Wellness Day was held at Westinghouse Park in Homewood.
Men participated in free health screenings, a 5K run/walk, fitness activities and more.
Now in its third year, the event seeks to bring doctors and care workers into the community. They meet with people who may not have the motivation to head to the doctor’s office.
“Men, period, we tend to not want to get screened and not want to go to the doctor’s,” walk coordinator Terence Starr said. “So we kind of get rid of those barriers that they deal with going to the doctor’s. So what better way to do it than to bring it straight to the community?”
