A Westmoreland County man is facing charges after the district attorney’s office says he made plans to meet up with an undercover law enforcement officer assuming the identity of a child.
A spokesperson for the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office says William Sowerby, 27, was arrested on Wednesday when he meant to meet up with the purported minor at Lynch Field in Greensburg.
He’s now facing charges of unlawful contact with a minor, attempted statutory sexual assault, attempted aggravated indecent assault, attempted corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility.
The DA’s office says a civilian turned over tips and suspected evidence, which led to a “credible, lawful, and independent investigation” led by Pennsylvania State Police.
Concerned citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency or through the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit at 1‑800‑385‑1044.
