Woman who allegedly drove away from Finleyville shooting victim now charged with homicide

Maurissa Spencer, the woman who is accused of driving away from a shooting victim who died, has been charged with homicide and conspiracy.

“You don’t have to pull the trigger in order to be guilty of this crime,” said Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh. “An innocent person in my eyes doesn’t leave a dead man in the middle of the street and run, and does not contact the authority 911 to report it and then leave their car and tries to wipe down the evidence.”

Police originally charged Spencer, 23, of Library, with tampering with evidence and recklessly endangering another person.

According to police paperwork, Spencer was with 29-year-old Jaisen Irwin in his final moments.

Early Monday, officers arrived at Bob’s Tavern in Finleyville after gunshots were reported in the parking lot. Irwin’s body was found later a short distance away. Spencer told police Irwin was in her car and fell out while she was driving. She also admitted that she kept going and did not stop.

“We filed the other charges prior to having the car processed,” said Walsh. “Once the car was processed, it is our belief that that did not occur.”

Police found her car riddled with bullets not far from the tavern. Walsh says it looks like Spencer tried to clean up blood inside her car before someone picked her up. According to updates added to the criminal complaint, officers found the clothes Spencer was wearing that night in the car covered in blood.

The criminal complaint also mentions that Irwin got into a fight at Jim’s Bar in Monongahela. The bar closed early because of the fight and the group decided to go to Bob’s Tavern, about 15 minutes away.

Witnesses told police the shooting happened in the parking lot.

Her bail was denied. She was also charged with criminal conspiracy and hindering apprehension.

Additional arrests and charges are likely.

“We’re not going to leave any stone unturned,” said Walsh. “We’ll charge anybody that has anything to do with this crime.”

On Friday afternoon, Walsh also obtained an order to shutdown Bob’s Tavern. The order calls the tavern a nuisance and attracts drug activity.
