Authorities ID woman's body found in Homewood

PITTSBURGH — Police continue to investigate after a woman’s body was found shot Tuesday night in Homewood.

Channel 11’s Vince Sims reported that the woman was identified as 30-year-old Samantha Powe, of East Liberty.

Investigators said someone discovered the body of the mother of two on Hallam Street while emergency crews were in the area to deal with downed wires.

“I haven't brought myself to tell them yet. They don't know that their mom is nowhere around,” said Powe’s brother, Alexander Hammond.

Cousin Kena Powe said, “You can't imagine how I feeling knowing that the end of this week, the beginning of next week, I have to bury my cousin. I'm an only child. She is like a sister to me.”

Samantha Powe’s family said she was a nice, happy, outgoing person who did not deserve what happened to her.

“She's a trouper. There isn’t anybody like her. She is a special breed,” said Hammond.

Police and Samantha Powe’s family are asking anyone with information to come forward.
