At-home COVID-19, flu combination test approved by FDA

PITTSBURGH — An at-home COVID-19 and flu combination test has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, though it is not yet available.

To get the test once it is available, a person must first be experiencing symptoms and contact their doctor for a prescription. Quest Diagnostics will then mail the test to the patient so that they can swab their nose and mail the sample back.

Symptoms of both the flu and COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and sore throat.

For people who don’t feel comfortable collecting a sample on their own at home, there’s an option to go through a drive-thru testing site.

The test costs about $130, according to the Quest Diagnostics website.
