Pens have to call up minor league goalie after lost passport situation

PITTSBURGH — The Penguins had to call up the goalie for their ECHL affiliate Wheeling Nailers after Casey DeSmith, who was expected to join the team in Canada, lost his passport, according to team officials.

Goaltender Emil Larmi, 23, is in his first professional season in North America after signing as a free agent in June.

The Penguins are scheduled to take on the Montreal Canadiens at 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Team officials said they wanted to rest the leading goalie for the Penguins, Tristan Jarry, and therefore he was not going to be making the trip across the border.
