PITTSBURGH,None — A retired Federal Bureau of Investigation counter terrorism expert is teaching students at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh about Osama bin Laden's death and how it could affect al-Qaeda.
Lawrence Likar said he spent most of his career tracking down terrorists. He is now the chairman of the justice, law and security department at the school. Likar said the death of bin Laden is a direct blow to the group.
"His [bin Laden's] thought process, things he said, the edicts he issued…, they [terrorists] use that as a motivational device and there was training that he was more directly in some ways involved in. It weakens them tremendously," Likar said.
Likar recently released a book about terrorism and his years of study and pursuit of terrorists around the world, including bin Laden. He said the death of the al-Qaeda's leader likely sent mass confusion into the ranks of the group.
"They also don't know exactly what intelligence information we gleaned from this raid. Certainly it's going to shut a lot of that down," said Likar.
Likar said he praises the president's decision to take out bin Laden but admits it was a huge gamble to invade a sovereign nation.
"If it would have been unsuccessful or have been a mistake, we would have had enormous political ramifications," Likar said.
