Arrest made in 1995 rape in which Penn State student was brutally attacked

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — State College police announced Tuesday they had solved a rape case from 1995 in which a female Penn State student was brutally attacked the day before her graduation.

According to WJAC-TV, Scott R. Williams of Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, was arrested and faces eight charges including rape and aggravated assault.

Police said they were able to use DNA to solve the 26-year-old case by retrieving it from items Williams allegedly left at the scene.

Investigators said in May 1995, the woman was walking home during the early morning hours on South Pugh Street in State College when Williams allegedly hit her. Police said he then dragged the woman into a nearby flower bed where he raped her and repeatedly beat her, cracking her skull.

The woman was set to graduate the next day.

She was found by a passerby in the middle of the street covered in blood and naked from the waist down, according to police.
