Cocktails-to-go could be made permanent in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Cocktails-to-go could become permanent in Pennsylvania if lawmakers are successful in getting a bill passed.

The bill, SB 1138, was introduced on Friday in the Pennsylvania Senate by senators Daniel Laughlin and John Yudichak to revive discussions on permanently allowing cocktails-to-go.

The sale of cocktails-to-go had only been allowed while a COVID-19 emergency order was in place.

On Monday, Tom Tyler, the president of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association, released a statement in response to the proposal. It said, in part, the following:

“While cocktails-to-go served as a lifeline during the COVID-19 emergency declaration, it also provided a way for family-owned establishments to expand their product offerings and increase customer convenience. Unfortunately, the end of the emergency declaration also meant the end to these products. This was a loss to both our industry and our patrons.”

Tyler added that the PLBTA is encouraging the Senate to move the bill as it is, with no amendments.
