1 person taken to hospital after police chase, crash on I-79 in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — A police chase ended with a crash Friday that had Interstate 79 closed in both directions in Washington County, officials said.

Around 9:40 a.m., police said the pursuit started in Robison Township and involved a stolen KIA SUV. The driver in the stolen vehicle refused to stop and fled onto I-79 south.

State police took over the pursuit as the driver of the stolen SUV weaved between traffic. Police said the driver crossed the center median, started driving the wrong way on the other side of the highway and collided with another vehicle.

Troopers said the driver of the stolen SUV was arrested and multiple criminal charges are pending. There were three female occupants in the SUV. Two vehicles were towed from the scene and two people had minor injuries.
