WASHINGTON — The lawyer representing 17 criminal defendants in Capitol riot cases has reportedly been missing court appearances and a Fayette County man filling in “is not a licensed attorney.”
According to CNBC, federal prosecutors warned a judge about Ryan Marshall in court filings. Marshall has been filling in for lawyer John Pierce who has made claims he is hospitalized with COVID-19 and is on a ventilator.
Marshall is involved in two separate felony criminal cases in Pennsylvania. He’s charged with multiple counts of intercepting communications and unlawful use of an audio device in court. He’s also accused of a scheme to defraud the widow of a man while serving as a courthouse law clerk.
Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said, “Mr. Marshall cannot ethically or legally represent Pierce’s clients.”
All of Pierce’s clients are being prosecuted in Washington federal court and include members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.
“I have nothing to say,” Marshall told CNBC.
