PITTSBURGH — Kennywood’s opening, and so are Sandcastle Waterpark and Idlewild & SoakZone after being unable to get up and running sooner because of COVID-19.
An announcement was made Tuesday that the parks will open in phases, starting with a Friends & Family Day on July 6. July 7-10 will be exclusively for holders of 2020 season passes, which will also be good for the 2021 season.
All three parks will open to the general public on July 11.

Enhanced safety and cleaning measures will be in place to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. They include the following:
- Limiting Capacity
- Pre-Entry Temperature Checks
- Face Coverings and Personal Protective Equipment
- Social Distancing
- Adding Sanitizing Stations
- Enhancing Cleaning Measures
- Educating Guests & Team Members
Capacity will not only be limited in the parks, but also on each ride, pool and slide, as well as in restaurants and buildings. The limited capacity is so the parks can comply with social distancing standards.
Guests will need to RSVP and have a pre-purchased ticket or season pass for the day they wish to visit any of the parks. Tickets and season passes will only be sold online, including sales by third parties such as schools and community groups. There will be no walk-up sales for tickets or season passes.
The online RSVP systems are expected to be available by June 17.
A temperature check will be required for all guests and team members before entering the parks. Anyone with a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees or displaying other symptoms of COVID-19 will be denied entry.
Face masks will be required for all team members and guests, except children under the age of 3. However, guests will have to remove their masks while swimming and on water attractions.
Sanitizing stations have been set up throughout each of the parks and thorough cleaning will take place regularly.
Signage and markers on the ground inside the parks, in parking lots and in entrance areas will remind people to social distance.
Kennywood will be open daily through August 25 and on weekends until November 1. Idlewild & SoakZone and Sandcastle will be open daily through August 23, with Sandcastle being open on weekends until Labor Day and Idlewild through October 25.
