Man arrested after bringing gun to Allegheny County Courthouse

PITTSBURGH — A 28-year-old man was arrested after sheriff’s deputies said he brought a gun to the Allegheny County Courthouse.

According to deputies, Prince Akeen Kamoory El Akando entered via the Ross Street doors and put his personal items through the security checkpoint. Guards there discovered a firearm among his personal items.

They told Kamoory El Akando to stand back while they tried to contact deputies. Officials said he tried several times to get past the guards and retrieve his items.

Eventually he ran off before deputies could arrive.

A Glock 45 9mm handgun was recovered with a round loaded in the chamber.

After about 30 minutes, deputies said Kamoory El Akando returned to surrender to law enforcement. He was taken into custody and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Kamoory El Akando was previously involved in a bizarre squatting situation in Fox Chapel last summer. A home there was listed for sale for $700,000. After a visit by the real estate agent and a prospective buyer, they believed it was evident someone was staying at the residence. The prospective buyer was able to find out that Kamoory El Akando was staying at the home upon doing some online research. Kamoory El Akando was attempting to have the deed changed to a company he created ‘Autochthons of Pennsylvania Trust’. The Autochthons describe themselves as a private tribal association for indigenous peoples. It is believed that members of this organization do not feel that U.S. law applies to them.

On July 16th, authorities raided the home and located items which proved someone had been living there recently. Furthermore, police confiscated weapons, including a magazine loaded with ammunition along with a device that converts a Glock handgun into a shoulder-style weapon. The following day, Kamoory El Akando went to the Fox Chapel Police Department to report a break-in at “his home” and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with two counts of criminal trespassing.
