Millions expected to travel for Christmas as omicron variant spreads

PITTSBURGH — With Christmas in less than a week, some are already on the move hitting the skies to get home in time.

Hundreds of millions of people are expected to travel for the holiday despite the omicron variant still spreading and new restrictions in some places.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that fully vaccinated people should feel comfortable traveling.

“Well I think people just need to be prudent. Clearly, when you travel, there is always a risk of increased infection,” Fauci said. “But if people need to travel and want to travel for the obvious family reasons, during this holiday season, if you’re vaccinated and you’re boosted and you take care when you go into congregate settings like airports, to make sure you continually wear your mask, you should be okay.”

At Pittsburgh International Airport, masks are still mandatory at all times for everyone.
