National Aviary announces plans for expansion

PITTSBURGH — The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is one of the largest in the world.

And now, it’s about to get a little bit bigger. The nonprofit broke ground Thursday on a project that will expand it – adding the space of about four houses.

The addition includes an event space that will be used for student programs.

Work on “The Garden Room” is set to start this winter. It is projected to open by fall 2020.
