Nationwide ground beef recall issued after E. coli outbreak kills 1, sickens more than a dozen

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agricutlture has issued a nationwide recall for 132,000 pounds of ground beef products believed to be responsible for at least one death and more than a dozen illnesses.

The beef was sold nationwide and may be contaminated with E.coli 026.

The packages affected included meat packaged by Cargill Meat Solutions on June 21, 2018, and bear the establishment number “EST. 86R” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The recall was issued after 17 people got sick and one death was reported between July 5 and July 25. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined that raw ground beef was the probable source of the illness.
