People living in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside say naked man seen peering into windows late at night

PITTSBURGH — Shadyside is known for its beautiful boutiques and historic homes. One street over from Walnut Street’s high-end shops and restaurants, neighbors say they’re horrified by what they’ve seen late at night — a prowler who is naked and peers into neighbors’ windows.

Marina Thornton lives on Elwood Street where the alleged prowler has visited, and neighbors have caught the man on camera. She says Shadyside is the last place she would think this would happen.

“It’s just so creepy,” Thornton tells Channel 11. “To know it’s happening here is very strange. Fortunately, I don’t live where there’s a window on the ground level, but still, it’s a little scary.”

One victim who didn’t feel comfortable doing an interview on camera tells me she saw the prowler outside her window wearing all black last week.

She says he emerged at 2:30 in the morning from behind an apartment building in the buff.

“There are a lot of young people around here and young families so it’s definitely just a shock,” Thornton added. “Always be on the lookout and be cautious. Rather be safe than sorry.”

This comes less than a month after a public safety meeting was held after allegations another man exposed himself on someone’s front porch in Shadyside. Neighbors say he also followed employees as they left businesses along Walnut Street. That man was arrested and is facing charges of harassment, trespassing and indecent exposure.

Neighbors tell Channel 11 that they’re encouraging everyone to lock their doors and be aware of their surroundings, especially when coming or going late at night or in the morning.
