Person hospitalized after flames destroy home in Washington County

AVELLA, Pa. — One person was taken to a hospital after flames destroyed a home in Washington County early Wednesday morning, officials said.

The fire broke out about 2 am. on Gardner Street in Avella.

Fire officials said the home was engulfed in flames by the time they got there.

The person who was inside was able to get out, but they suffered burns and were taken to a hospital, officials said.

A fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
