Pittsburgh council names “Our Lady of the Parkway” shrine historic

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Pittsburgh City Council has given a historic designation to the so-called “Our Lady of the Parkway” shine.

Its real name is The Shrine of the Blessed Mother and it sits on a hilltop in South Oakland overlooking the Parkway East.

Created in the mid-20th century, the shrine is located on property owned by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, according to our news partners at triblive.com.

Ricky Burgess was the only Council member to vote against the designation calling the resolution “the clever scheme to seize the property rights of the Catholic Church.”
