Plum school board accepts superintendent's resignation

The Plum School Board accepted Superintendent Timothy Glasspool’s offered resignation while also approving a settlement for a lawsuit that said he turned a blind eye to a sex abuse scandal.

Parents filled the board meeting Tuesday night, with many of them imploring members to accept Glasspool's resignation, and in a 7-1 vote, the board did.

"His resignation can't change what happened," said parent Karen Aquaviva. "His departure cannot replace the innocence that was lost, nor will it make those girls forget what happened. But having closure, seeing him gone from this position, will hopefully allow the victims a chance to heal."

The district and Glasspool have struggled to get past a teacher-student sex abuse scandal that ignited in February 2015 and ultimately led to three male teachers pleading guilty to sexually assaulting female students as well as at least two lawsuits being filed against the district.

Glasspool was cleared by police and independent investigators from any involvement in the crimes, but many in the district believed he needed to resign since they happened on his watch.

"Once he is gone, I pray that we as a community can begin to move forward," Aquaviva said.

The terms of Glasspool's severance have yet to be determined. His resignation is effective Oct. 1.

The lawsuit was brought by one of the female students who was sexually assaulted. The settlement is for $300,000.
