Man kills mother and neighbor, shoots another neighbor at New Castle duplex, police say

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man confessed to killing his mother and his neighbor, as well as shooting another neighbor, on Wednesday in New Castle, police said.

Louis Esposito, 59, is charged in the incident, which happened at a duplex on Dewey Avenue.

Neighbor Madison Hensel showed Channel 11 doorbell camera video which showed a neighbor running across Dewey Avenue after hearing gunshots.

“Help, come on, someone call 911!” the neighbor can be heard yelling.

When officers first got to the scene, they found a neighbor, Kevin Ross, who had been shot twice in the chest with a shotgun. He was given first aid by other neighbors until he was taken to a hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police say after Esposito shot Ross in the chest, he began “laughing like he was crazy.”

Family members told police they were not able to get ahold of 78-year-old John Micco, the landlord for the duplex. Because they were unsure where Esposito was and that there was access between the residences, officers went into the neighboring unit. They found Micco dead in the kitchen.

Officers then went into Esposito’s home, where they found his mother, Margret Esposito, dead.

It is unclear how Margret Esposito and Micco died. Autopsies are pending.

While inside the home where Micco’s body was discovered, officers found Louis Esposito in the basement and arrested him.

Hensel lives across the street from the scene.

“It’s scary but also thankful to know that neighbors were right there willing to jump in and help. They had no clue who the shooter was,” she said. “It’s just so sad. It’s crazy. It just hits close to home being right there. Just shocking, you never expect it to be close to you.”

Louis Esposito was taken to the New Castle Police Department, where he admitted to the crimes, police said. He told police his “mom suffered, and that she was beaten and stabbed.” He then tried to pull the fire alarm in the interview room to escape, but was immediately caught.

Louis Esposito is charged with two counts of criminal homicide, one count of attempted homicide and one count of attempted escape.

“We just talked to him about a week or so ago,” Hensel said.
