Police officer placed on leave for alleged road rage incident

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh police officer has been placed on paid leave after he was accused of being involved in a road rage incident.

Police said Tuesday night that Robert C. Kramer pointed a revolver at a man in Sheraden during the incident in May.

Kramer is charged with simple assault and received a summons to appear in court.

According to a criminal complaint, a driver said Kramer pulled up alongside him on Chartiers Street and began arguing with the man about speed and reckless driving.

At some point, the driver said Kramer pointed a loaded silver-colored revolver at him before driving off. The driver then called 911 and also notified a nearby crossing guard for Langley Middle School that a man was waving a gun in a school zone.

When police responded to the scene, they said the driver with the gun had already left. Investigators linked Kramer to the incident after a witness got his license plate number, according to police.

When police contacted Kramer, he told them Smith pulled alongside him and began shouting and acting aggressively. He also said he didn’t own a silver-colored revolver; he said he was speaking into a silver cellphone and motioned to Smith with the hand that was holding the phone.

However, state records indicate Kramer bought a stainless steel revolver in West Mifflin several years ago, and a police search of his home recovered the gun, police said.
