Police seek persons of interest after woman found shot in home

PITTSBURGH — The fear is real tonight for many on Rochelle Street in Knoxville, just hours after learning a neighbor was shot inside her home.

“it breaks my heart,” said a neighbor. “I’m in tears right now. No one is safe.”

Channel 11 has learned the victim is a 52-year-old woman who was found just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday assaulted and shot, lying on her dining room floor.

“She didn’t deserve to be shot in the head like some wild animal,” said another neighbor who did not want to be identified.

Police say they have identified persons of interest, but so far there are no arrests, leaving many here on edge.

“My prayers are with her and family,” said neighbor Lauren Thompson. “This is traumatizing. I live next door and I didn’t hear anything.”

The woman was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

“She was a nice lady. She was crazy, but she was a nice lady,” said a neighbor. “She would have Easter egg hunts in a vacant lot and she would make Easter baskets.”

“It’s sad,” said a neighbor. “An innocent woman. Over what?”

Some neighbors are too scared to show their faces on camera. They say their neighborhood has become more dangerous in recent years.

“This neighborhood has been gone right down the tubes and we don’t get any help around here,” said a neighbor.
