UPMC officials say don’t go to the emergency room for a simple COVID-19 test

PITTSBURGH — UPMC officials are asking people to not go to the emergency room to get a COVID-19 test if you’re only experiencing mild symptoms.

The hospital system posted on social media you should only go to the emergency department to get tested if you’re experiencing breathing problems or other severe symptoms.

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh also addressed the issue, saying: “If your child has breathing problems or other severe, life-threatening symptoms, call 911 or visit the nearest Emergency Department. Please do not visit the Emergency Department for testing unless your child’s COVID-19 symptoms are severe.”
