Washington County man killed day before his 37th birthday, family calling for justice

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A Washington County man was killed in a shooting in Washington, Pennsylvania, Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of West Walnut Street, Washington, at about 12:10 p.m. Police said Leonard Wayne Williams Jr., 36, of Washington, was shot.

Williams would have turned 37 years old Thursday. An air force veteran and single father, his family says he and his property manager were arguing outside of his Walnut Street home yesterday afternoon, after the landlord had stuck eviction notices on multiple doors.

The family told 11 News that he was shot with his hands in the air in front of his children yesterday afternoon, allegedly while asking the property manager why he put an eviction notice on his door.

Ambulance and Chair Service, the UPMC Paramedic Response Unit, Pennsylvania State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington High School SROs (School Resource Officers) and the Washington Fire Department assisted on the scene.

The Washington Police Department is investigating. They aren’t releasing any other details while they continue the investigation. Williams’ family wants murder charges filed — saying the man went to his car to retrieve his gun and came back to shoot Williams.
