Young couple, toddler flown to hospital after house explodes in Greene County

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Investigators are trying to determine what caused a house to explode in Greene County on Wednesday.

The blast ripped it in half and knocked it off its foundation.

Cody White and Samantha Adamson, who are in their 20s, and their 4-year-old son James were flown to a Pittsburgh burn center. The little boy suffered the most severe injuries, according to the fire chief.

"As far as the extent of injuries that's yet to be determined. You can't inhale too much heat," Petek said.

The explosion happened in the 100 block of Bowser Road in Morgan Township.

According to the fire chief, the explosion happened after one of the residents turned on the oven.

"He went to cook his little boy something to eat. he turned the stove on and there was a big explosion," said Joseph Petek, chief of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company.

As of Thursday afternoon, the young boy and his mother had been released from the hospital. The boy's father is still being treated for third-degree burns to his face, neck and chest.

The home is a total loss and investigators, as well as People's Gas, are still trying to determine the cause of the explosion. You can donate to the family HERE.
