Iconic actor Burt Reynolds, who died Thursday at the age of 82, was remembered Thursday by fellow actors and friends as many things, including a “living legend,” a “trailblazer” and a “true gentleman.
A family member issued a statement calling the suave movie star and 1970s-era Hollywood heartthrob “a generous, passionate and sensitive man who was dedicated to his family, friends, fans and acting students.”
Here are some of the tributes to Reynolds from social media.
Statement to the AP from Sally Field: “There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away. They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.” pic.twitter.com/A0v2ccfnVU— Andrew Dalton (@andyjamesdalton) September 6, 2018
Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor - check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family.— Arnold (@Schwarzenegger) September 6, 2018
Burt Reynolds often told me how much he loved my father. One night at dinner, he admitted that in his early days he tried to imitate Brando, but later he figured that if he could just be as funny as Jack Cassidy, he might have broader appeal. What an understatement. RIP Burt.— Shaun Cassidy (@shaunpcassidy) September 7, 2018
My man Burt Reynolds with me in the HBO movie “Cherokee Kid”. A lot of people don’t know how woke this man was. pic.twitter.com/GxNzmbD1kt— Sinbad (@sinbadbad) September 7, 2018

It was my pleasure to work with Burt Reynolds and spend some time with him. He was a wonderful guy a wonderful actor. No one had more fun making movies than Burt and it showed! I also learned a great lesson on how to treat people just watching him with his fans. So long Burt!— Kurtwood Smith (@tahitismith) September 7, 2018

Remembering every member of the Mystery, Alaska cast and crew, what a lovely community that was, I hope you are all happy and busy .
Sad to learn of death of Burt Reynolds, one of the nicest ppl I had pleasure to meet. Spent time w/ him at his home-he unselfishly gave time and money to assist young actors and teach at community college in Jupiter, FL. Classy, warm, and very funny. #BurtReynolds pic.twitter.com/vI8BizxckU— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) September 6, 2018
So sad to hear of #BurtReynolds passing. Lee enjoyed a long friendship with Burt. Lee and I are thankful for the time we spent with Burt over the years and spending time with him just a few weeks ago in Pigeon Forge, TN. 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/qvBT8CXnTz— FaithMajors (@faith_majors) September 6, 2018
God Bless and RIP to THE BANDIT. Burt Reynolds was a living legend on screen and a philanthropist off screen. Rest easy. pic.twitter.com/hRcga0oP9m— Billy Ray Cyrus (@billyraycyrus) September 6, 2018
Burt Reynolds was hip, cool, and ceaselessly sexy. When he posed for this shot for Cosmopolitan magazine in 1972, it wasn't some cheap PR stunt. It was a wry commentary on the emerging sexual revolution. Farewell, Burt Reynolds. Thank you for the wonderful fun memories. pic.twitter.com/70odMsPSUL— Marlo Thomas (@MarloThomas) September 6, 2018
