While vacationing with his family in North Myrtle Beach, Xander Buck was looking for shark teeth, WTVR reported.

But instead of the standard small finds, he uncovered a megalodon tooth.

The megalodon species is one of the largest sharks ever to exist but went extinct about two and a half million years ago, WTVR reported.

“I wanted to make sure, so I submitted photos to a couple of fossil/tooth groups on Facebook and hundreds of people have agreed that it’s a meg,” Xander’s mother Kelly Buck told WTVR. “I don’t think he quite understands the gravity of what he’s found, but it’s definitely the largest tooth we’ve ever found.”

Xander found the tooth near Ocean Creek Resort, WMBF reported.
