Culture during coronavirus pandemic: Stream Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’, Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein'

If you’re craving a bit of culture while cooped up inside, The Globe and The National Theater are at your rescue.

A 2009 performance of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” is streaming on The Globe theater’s YouTube channel. It will be available until May 3.

The play will be followed by “The Two Noble Kinsmen” that will available from May 4 until May 17, then “The Winter’s Tale,” “The Merry Wives of Windsor" and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

“Macbeth” will start streaming on May 11 and will be available until schools reopen. According to The Globe, the staging was made for younger audiences.

The National Theater is putting star power on its stream with its upcoming showing of “Frankenstein." Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller trade off the roles of Dr. Frankenstein and his creation. Cumberbatch performs as the creature from April 30 until May 7. Miller is the creature from May 1 until May 8.

“Frankenstein” starts streaming on YouTube on April 30 until May 9. It will be followed by “Antony & Cleopatra” strange Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo, starting May 7.

Before “Frankenstein” hits YouTube, the National Theater is streaming “Twelfth Night.”
