Fresh Express is recalling some of its bagged salads produced in its Streamwood, Illinois, facility because of the risk of listeria contamination.
The company announced the recall, saying the Michigan Department of Agriculture found listeria during a random sample test in a package of Sweet Hearts salad mix.
The recalled salads were sold in Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. The recall includes all use-by dates of fresh salad with product codes Z324 through Z350. A full list of products can be found in the company’s announcement.

Customers who have the recalled products should throw them away immediately and call the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at (800) 242-5472 for more information.
Eating products contaminated with listeria puts you at risk for infection. According to the CDC, the disease causes fever and diarrhea – similar to other foodborne germs – but can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
